Call for Presenters 2nd Saudi
Radiology Technologists
Conference (SRTC) 2011
Dear Colleagues:
The organizing Committee of the 2nd SRTC would like to encourage all technologists,
students, educators etc. to submit proposals for lectures and abstracts for the 2011
Conference held in 22/05/ 2011 in Riyadh.
Deadline for submission: 05/03/ 2011
Conference Objectives
• Introduce new applications in medical imaging.
• Exchange technical and applicable experience between different provinces in the
Kingdome.
• Improve awareness toward the need of such activities on national level.
Program Streams and Suggested Topics
The Scientific Committee of the 2nd SRTC is inviting the submission of Presentation.
Authors are asked to submit Presentation under one of the following categories:
1- General Radiography 5- Nuclear Medicine
2- Interventional Radiology 6- Mammography
3- Computed Tomography 7- Ultrasonography
4- Magnetic Resonance Imaging
2
Presentation Formats
There are three available formats for presentation: lectures, workshops, and poster
presentations.
Lecture: A 30 -minute session with a single theme. A lecture is defined as a formal,
didactic talk intended to provide information or teach people about a particular subject
and/or research experience.
Workshop: A session that may be presented by an individual or multiple speakers -
maximum of 4 speakers. Workshops are interactive, intended for audience participation
and discussion and should include the following characteristics:
· Provide participants with a practical application of a practice, theory or policy
· Offer relevant and timely topic and content;
· Provide opportunity for speaker interaction with participants.
.
Poster presentation: These poster presentations will be held in a specially designated,
visible area in the exhibit hall. It is expected that one of the authors be present at a
predetermined time during breaks and/or lunches to answer any questions.
Learning objectives
Each submission MUST include a description of one or more learning objectives that
describe the benefit to the session attendees. To describe the learning objective(s), use an
action verb, for example:
· To acquire knowledge in…
· To increase comprehension of …
· To identify, to discuss, to explain or to evaluate …
Who is eligible to submit a proposal?
Proposals will be accepted from anyone related to the field of radiology such as;
technologists, students, educators etc..
Note: the abstract should follow the template attached with this invitation.

1
Abstract Template
For consistency and easy evaluation of abstracts come from colleagues and students,
it is important that the abstract should follow the proposed structure below.
1- Title of the Abstract
2- Name of the author, Qualification
3- Institution or department, City, Country
4- Background: (an introduction to the topic)
5- Methods: (the way of collecting data and other information to be presented)
6- Results: (if you have a case study, clinical trial, or other research projects)
7- Conclusion: (summary of your topic)
8- Keywords: ( maximum of eight terms used in your topic)
9- The abstract should not be more than two pages
(See example of abstract in page 2)

Example of Abstract
Acupuncture Effects on Carpal Tunnel Syndrome; a Brain mapping
study using Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI)
Ali Y Zailae, PhD
Ministry of Health, Radiology department, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
Background: Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS), a common entrapment neuropathy with
variable response to treatment, is often seen in acupuncture practice. Although,
acupuncture is considered clinically effective, its specificity has been questioned due
to inconsistency in results.
Methods: The central effects of point injection (PI) acupuncture stimulation were
studied using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) in 22 volunteers (12
male and 10 female, average age 44.9 years) with CTS. To determine whether
different acupoints activate different brain regions, a comparison was made between
PC7 (commonly listed in the treatment of CTS) with ST36, a general analgesic point.
Results: All subjects reported Deqi and a statistically significant decrease in mean HR
(P < 0.001) was recorded after acupoint stimulation at both acupoints. Single subject
analysis of the fMRI data showed a BOLD response within the limbic lobe, frontal
lobe, parietal lobe, occipital lobe and cerebellum in 8 subjects during stimulation of
PC7, and 5 during stimulation of ST36. Analysis of grouped data using a random
effects (RFX) approach, showed no significant activations.
Conclusion: Given these results and the complexity of acupuncture systems and brain
activity, additional work to determine whether acupuncture stimulation can be
validated by means of brain imaging tool such as fMRI is warranted.
Keywords: acupuncture, point injection, carpal tunnel syndrome, functional magnetic
resonance, random effects analysis
